I used to frequent this place's precursor the old-school Patisserie Claude. Now it's back with the fresh new branding and the fresh new interior that are posh yet approachable and definitely more contemporary. I had a pain au chocolat, a croissant and an iced coffee (though they now have more creative coffee and matcha drinks too like most other coffee shops around these days). The counter person was very sweet and friendly on this visit. The croissant/pain au chocolat were both as dense as the original but maybe baked more to perfection compared what I remember from the last couple of visits I made before the precursor closed. The prices are higher than before on average now, but still average or maybe a tad cheaper even compared to most other bakeries selling these things lately. I will go back now that I experienced this new incarnation.

I used to come to this place every now and then, whenever I happened to be in the area. The last few times I'd come, however, I noticed that 'Claude' didn't seem to be around, and...I got the sense that there might be new owners. It was only very recently that, after picking up a few things at P. Claude, and after seeing 'Pablo' there, that I decided to do a search online, and 'yup', sure enough, I saw that Pablo, who'd been working and learning from Claude, there, for many years, was now the new owner. I'm happy to report that everything I got (a chocolate eclair, a very soft, delicate hazelnut 'puff pastry' of sorts, and a mini pumpkin pie) was excellent. Mind you, I am a French pastry connoisseur...a 'snob' if you will. IMHO, no one does pastry as good as the French. And...Pablo clearly learned well, from Claude. Ese Dominicano (i.e., Pablo) lo hace bien!

Small and unassuming bakery / pastry shop in west village, but the pastries at @patisserie_claude is so tasty it's totally worth stopping by to grab yourself a treat! There's basically no seating, so I would recommend to grab coffee and find seating elsewhere.

The Napoleon... what in the world! I'm obsessed with Napoleons and this one is so beyond perfect. One bite and you're like, where have you been all this time? The thick frosting, the fluffy crust, the perfectly sweet and creamy center... The chocolate croissant is great and the almond croissant is subtle and pretty good but the Napoleon? Hubba hubba! 5 stars!!!!
